New Year // New Trends

by Cassie Bryant

We’ve researched and picked some of our favourite trend predictions for 2018. We think it’s going to be a blast of new (and old) trends. That’s right, we’re bringing back some of our faves with a fresh new twist!

Who remembers when an image would glitch or corrupt? Frustrating! Well this glitch effect is now taking over the graphic design world, and you know what? We’re loving it! Add a new perspective, a pop of colour and some interest to a simple image. Our tip? Less is more and subtlety is key.

We have also been obsessing over duotone in the past year and we don’t see this love dimming anytime soon. To freshen it up, we’ll be mixing bold and contrasting colours and creating double exposure for an eye-catching and engaging result.

In keeping with the double theme, double light is another photography effect we’re eager to try in 2018. Look at how these examples show simple images that are transformed into some modern and fun pics - perfect for anyone savvy on social media!

Moving on to a studio favourite; typography. We recently created a brand for our friends at Longtable featuring cropped type. The final result is so unique and appealing, yet professional and readable. This isn’t the first, and definitely won’t be the last time we play with creative typography.

Metallics have made a huge appearance in our portfolio this year and with new digital metallic printing as an option – we expect to push some boundaries in 2018. Even in the digital world, using metallic effects in photoshop mockups always adds a real-life effect and gives instant wow factor.

As we wrap up 2017 and look forward to 2018, one of our most loved Annual Reports this year included an amazing spectrum of colourful gradients and tansitions. Whether using two colours or more, this trend is so powerful and engaging and we look forward to many more projects incorporating this.
